Два вечера проведем все вместе за традиционным ирландским ужином.
Who else is going

Соберется небольшая группа увлеченных путешествиями людей, тех, кто хочет узнать больше об Ирландии и любит активно проводить время в отпуске.
Where do we start

After the event:
I thoroughly enjoyed our walk in Ravensdale Forest! Emerald woods, winding road, and a random encounter with half-wild sheep – an empowering experience!

I can confidently recommend Svetlana as your guide to the nature of Ireland. She is inspiring and motivating.
Don’t hesitate to follow her routes!

Uppsala
Uppsala City greeted us with sunny and chilly weather (-8C), and surprised with a pink castle and abandoned streets a few hours before Christmas Eve.

This is a small city 70km North of Stockholm, known for the 15th century University.
The city is famous for being home to Carl Linnaeus, the great botanist and father of modern taxonomy.

2. Uppsala Castle
4. The old University Library, which holds many priceless exhibits, like the famous Silver Bible from the 6th century. Unfortunately closed on 24 December
9. Uppsala train station
10. Resting place of Carl Linneaus in Uppsala Cathedral
Uppsala Cathedral
Uppsala Cathedral, the national Church of Sweden, is the burial site of St. Eric, the patron Saint of Sweden. This is the tallest Church not only in Sweden but in all Scandinavia.
This is the resting place for Gustav Vasa, the king of Sweden in 16th century, famous for releasing the country from Danish-Norwegian influence during his 37-years reign.

Gulf of Bothnia
From Uppsala you can get to the shore of the Gulf of Bothnia. To do so, you need to make a one hour trip by a local train, then change for a bus, and in a half an hour you will find yourself in a charming fishing village. Here you can enjoy the views of the Gulf, indulge yourself with freshly cooked seafood in a cafe nearby, check out a local fish shop, or take a walk to a lighthouse. A short winter day will pass in the blink of an eye.
Gävle
Gävle is a lively picturesque city smaller than Uppsala. It is located on a shore of the Gulf of Bothnia.
It will take about an hour to walk around the centre where the most of the landmarks located. They include:

1. Cityhall
2. Music Centre
5. The Holy Trinity Church
6. Concert Hall
8. Gävle Theatre
Gävle Goat
Gävle Goat is a famous symbol of Swedish Christmas. Every year a giant goat figure made of straw is displayed in the city centre early December. This tradition started in 1966. And every year a vandalism competition takes place.

The figure is supposed to be reusable, but on a very rare year the goat survives till the New Year. Every time it gets either broken or burnt down, sometimes only a few days after the installation, but sometimes it manages to make it to Christmas. All of it despite of efforts of police forces to prevent damage.
Once it was even an attempt to still it by a helicopter and deliver to Stockholm.

This year the goat did not make it one week before Christmas. It was burnt to the ground, with only a smoked carcass of his younger brother remaining on the spot.

Unexpected Delay
In an expedition, there is always a place for unforeseen adjustments to plans.

Our night train from Gävle was 4 hours delayed. That gave us an opportunity to enjoy the lights of the night city in full before depature.

But it was not the end of our adventures. In the middle of the way the train was unexpectedly terminated. Now we are travelling to our next destination by a bus and are crossing the Arctic Circle enjoying the midday sun from a window of our warm and cosy coach.
And wild reindeer clear the way for us.
Which is not too bad, would you agree?
Kiruna
It is already dark after 3pm in Kiruna in December, 200km North of the Arctic Circle. So be ready to wonder through the night most of the time. Or to find a cosy place to try traditional food like a reindeer burger or a cup of coffee with delicious Swedish muffins called fika.

And of course, there is a good chance to catch aurora, even if it is not too strong on that particular day!
Ice Hotel
Icehotel in the North of Sweden was the first of its kind. There is not only an ice art exhibition open all year round. There is also a once in a life time opportunity to stay overnight in one of those fridge-cold rooms on a bed made of ice and covered with a reindeer fur.
And if you don't like cold, you have an option to stay in a warm room of cause. But it was not what we came here for, was it?
Nutti Sámi Siida
Visit to a Sami open air museum is one of the specialties of a trip to Lapland.

It turns out reindeer are always hungry and will chase you if they think you might have a handful of lichen for them. So keep your eyes open and mind the bag of treats closely.
Happy New Year!
And let your dreams come true.

Estrange Research Facility
Polar Sweden is not only about ice, aurora and reindeer. There is also a unique space centre.

Estrange is a rocket range and research facility. Sounding rockets, satellite launch, stratospheric balloons, just to name a few...

This is the place where anyone can book a flight for an object they want to travel to space, a scientific experiment or a couple of wedding rings!

Access to the territory is restricted for occasional visitors, but everyone are welcome to a visitor centre at the gate.
Here you can learn about various space projects, review an impressive collection of real rocket heads travelled to space, or hear from local researchers about living and working in the middle of Lapland.
